ATLAS Thesis Award 2020 goes to Dr. Luigi Marchese, Postdoc in the group of Prof. G. Dissertori.
Congratulations Luigi for this very important prize for the best PhD thesis: „Muon reconstruction performance and constraints on off-shell Higgs Boson production and the Higgs Boson total width with the ATLAS detector and charm production at low transverse momentum with the CDF detector“ in the ATLAS experiment 2020.
Golden Owl for Günther Dissertori
Every year, the Association of Students at ETH Zurich (VSETH) honours on ETH Day lecturers who have provided exceptional teaching with the "Golden Owl". For courses in the Departments of Physics, the award goes this year to Günther Dissertori .
CMS submitted its 1000th journal paper.
On Friday 19 June 2020, scientists at the CMS experiment at CERN's Large Hadron Collider submitted their 1,000th paper. This monumental achievement reflects an outstanding contribution to humanity's understanding of the universe — and it's just the beginning.
The start-up Positrigo uses findings from particle physics for the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease
Positron emission tomography (PET) helps medical doctors to detect cancer and many other diseases. A team of researchers led by ETH Professor Günther Dissertori is working on a new generation of PET scanners that could in future be of great use in pharmacological research and in the treatment of Alzheimer's patients. The technical innovation is based, among other things, on fundamental research at CERN.
